Darryl Ahnemann


Darryl Ahnemann, principal of Ahnemann Associates, has been in resource development since 1968. A seasoned professional in funding for non-profit organizations, business development and promotions, he has worked with both public and private entities in higher education, health care, human services, and with care centers, churches, and economic development agencies.

Ahnemann is an expert in the conception, initiation, startup, coordination, development and implementation of successful annual fund raising and public relations efforts. He is able to establish and maintain rapport with individuals and organizations to ascertain their needs and interface those needs with their goals and objectives. He has a track record of successful volunteer recruitment.

He is experienced in all areas of fund-raising, including capital campaigns, annual giving and planned gift solicitation.


Kristina Ahnemann Ridgely

Kristina Ahnemann Ridgely provides Ahnemann Associates with a guide to the world of human services and community providers. Kristina is an Employment Coordinator with Creative Community Options, a not-for-profit agency whose mission is to empower people with disabilities with independent choices and the opportunity to live and work with dignity in their own community.

Ridgely is well informed on business, political and social issues facing the field today, serving as an active member of APSE (Association for Persons in Supported Employment). She also participates with IACP (Iowa Association of Community Providers), the NRC (National Results Council), the Greater Des Moines Partnership, and Ankeny Chamber of Commerce.

Ridgely possesses strong knowledge of the achievements gained and challenges faced by people with disabilities and the people who serve them today. Ridgely works to better interpret and articulate customer needs to the writers of Ahnemann Associates and ultimately to the constituents customers desire to reach.


George Hanusa

George Hanusa is the chief writer for Ahnemann Associates. He drafts and/or edits all written material required for a campaign. A retired pastor, serving all of his ministry in Iowa, he is author of Hope for All Generations, the 125 year history of Lutheran Social Service of Iowa.

Prior to his retirement, he was on the staff of Lutheran Social Service of Iowa for 11 years as director/vice president for communications and development, responsible for fund-raising seven of those years and for communications/public and church relations all of those years.

After serving four parishes in Iowa from 1958-1976, he became executive assistant to the president/bishop of the Iowa District of The American Lutheran Church, which included 385 congregations across Iowa. His responsibilities included general administration of the office, working with personnel and congregations, managing the district convention, writing and editing district publications.

In retirement, he is involved in various volunteer activities and is a freelance writer. His articles have been published in The Iowan and Iowa Commerce magazines.


Ellen Hanusa Wonderlin

Ellen Hanusa Wonderlin writes and edits for Ahnemann Associates. She has extensive experience in business communications, including 16 years at Principal Financial Group, an international Fortune 500 company based in Des Moines. During her tenure, she wrote and directed graphic design and production for marketing brochures, audiovisuals, direct mail campaigns, publications and collaterals about group insurance, pension plans, and new financial products. Her work received awards from the national Life Communicators Association, Art Directors of Iowa and the Ad Professionals of Des Moines.

She has served as a board member and newsletter editor for Global Gifts, a non-profit fair trade shop, written and edited newsletters for Des Moines Habitat for Humanity and Micah Corporation, and produced synod-level publications for her church. She is also a published essayist and poet.



Bruce Kawahara

Bruce Kawahara, brings an extra dimension to Ahnemann Associates having served organizations for over fifteen years in executive levels in customer loyalty, learning and development, sales performance, and competitive intelligence. He is known for his competency to lead small and large organizations through strategic changes.

Bruce pursued his dream and became a fully certified executive coach where he now works with executives and leaders to achieve business results through people and culture development. It is Bruce’s passion to create work environments where team members feel passionate, competent, effective and supported without fear.


Doug Lockin

Doug Lockin, CPA has twenty years experience as a fundraising professional, the vast majority of that as a planned giving officer. He is a University of Iowa College of Business graduate, with a degree in accounting. He passed the CPA exam and worked four years in public accounting prior to entering the gift planning field.

Lockin has a passion to assist smaller charitable organizations develop and maintain a solid planned giving program. He led the initial development of Mercy Hospital Foundation’s (Des Moines) planned giving program, and guided its growth for eleven years. He then joined the ChildServe (former Convalescent Home for Children in Johnston, Iowa) Foundation, leading the overall development effort with a day-to-day focus on the gift planning component.

He has converted this experience to a simple, four-point outline that any charitable organization can use to nurture and grow a planned giving program. The heart of this outline is the development of confident and committed leadership; elevating the involvement of board members and volunteers for the long-term success of the organization’s mission.
